Zoom recently grew in popularity as the pandemic affected every country in the world that rendered virtually everyone stationary in their homes. This gave way to a more alternative form of working from home through net conferencing service provided by Zoom.

While it becomes a useful tool for everyone, Security concerns over the use of its service where on the spotlight after FTC described Zoom’s privacy and security practices were shady and that it imposed fines for that.

However, new development has FTC formulate a new regulatory incentive for the company to settle its shortcomings. For that, FTC has required the company to have a information security program that will see it share security audits with the agency. In addition to that, Zoom also promised to inform the FTC for any security breach and implement addition security features.

“Zoom’s security practices didn’t line up with its promises, and this action will help to make sure that Zoom meetings and data about Zoom users are protected,”

Andrew Smith, the director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.

As part of the settlement, Zoom doesn’t need to pay the fine that FTC imposed as long as Zoom sticks with the agreement.
