Xioami Redmi 2 now official, Launching this January 9 for only CNY 700 in China

Xiaomi starts the new year with the new budget-friendly handset the Redmi 2, It’s the successor of the highly successful entry-level device from last year and now the company is once again betting into the next iteration.

From the standpoint, the new Redmi 2 follows the same footsteps as its predecessor, it has kept the original screen size of 4.7-inch that made the first generation Redmi most popular. but the footprint this time is much better than the last one as underlying upgrades has come along with it.

The 4.7-inch display sports HD 720p resolution with color temperature adjustment enabled. The handset is powered by a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC with Quad-Core Cortex-A53 running at 1.2 GHz along with Adreno 306 Graphics processor. There’s  1 GB of RAM and an 8 GB storage memory built-in with micro-SD slot supporting up to 32 GB micro-SD cards.


For mobile photography, the Redmi 2 is still equipped with an 8-Megapixel main camera on the back, it features a wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and is able to shoot 1080p videos. On the front is a bit improved 2-Megapixel camera which is capable of taking 720p videos.xiaomi-redmi2-1

For connectivity, the new Redmi 2 comes with Dual-SIM slots and supports 4G LTE connectivity compatible for both Chinese and International networks. A China-only variant is also available with 4G support only to SIM1 while SIM2 slot will only support 2G and 3G networks. As standard in today’s devices, the Redmi 2 also comes with the following connectivity options: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with A-GPS + Beidou + GLONASS,  and micro-USB 2.0 with Quickcharge 1.0 support.


The Xiaomi Redmi 2 or Hongmi 2 in China is launching this coming January 9 with a standard retail price of CNY 700 or just $110. Despite its predecessor’s popularity, Xiaomi hasn’t made a statement on when the new unit will touch other regions. But they gradually will, just like it did previously.
