Xiaomi has gone a long way with the Mi Mix series. Early this year, the company launched the Mi Mix Fold and entirely new concept from Xiaomi with a folding display. However, fans of the series are still longing for what the series had started five years ago with the last incarnation of it being the Mi Mix 3. After almost three long years, Xiaomi finally comes out with the true Mi Mix 3 successor as it introduce the Mix 4.

After years of research and development and delays, Xiaomi finally incorporates everyone’s wish for an under-display camera which the company calls it the “camera under panel” or CUP. While it’s not the first of its kind in the market, it is however Xiaomi’s first on its smartphone lineup and definitely and improvement from previous implementations as seen on other brands.

The new Mix 4 starts off with its 6.67-inch AMOLED display with no notch or punch hole whatsoever and underneath it is a 20MP selfie camera. In order to implement the technology, Xiaomi opted with a a whole new type of flexible display that uses a new micro-diamond pixel pattern along with a redesigned circuitry to fully maximize the transparency for the display layer and enable the light to pass through the camera sensor.

Despite such feat, the part of the display that covers the camera sensor still manages to pack 400ppi density making object or text visible and readable. Even more so, the display panel features a 120Hz refresh rate on a Full-HD+ resolution and that makes the experience as smooth as it can be.

Protecting the surrounding and unblemished front display panel is a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus while the back of the device is made out of ceramic and is available in Black, White and Gray color options.

On the back, there’s nothing much you can see here except for the Xiaomi logo and the prominent camera module. The Mix 4 comes with a triple camera setup with a 108MP ISOCELL HMX 1/1.33-inch main sensor, this features 4-in-1 Super Pixel binning, OIS, and a f/1.95 Aperture 7P lens. Together with the main camera is a 13MP sensor with a 120-degree Ultra wide 6P lens. Finally there’s a 8MP sensor with periscope lens that gives up to 5x optical zoom and though 50x on digital zoom. It comes with a 120mm-equivalent focal length and includes OIS.

What powers the new Mix 4 is the new Snapdragon 888+ chipset with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and storage between 128GB and up to 512GB. The battery on the new Mi Mix 4 is rated at 4,500mAh that supports the fast 120W wired charging that Xiaomi promises to up the device in 15 minutes on boost mode. There’s also a 50W wireless charging and can fill the device up to a hundred in about 28 minutes in boost mode as well.

Feature-wise, the Mix 4 comes with stereo speakers and is tuned by Harman/Kardon and an Ultra Wideband (UWB) that allows precise positioning data and smart device controls.

The new Xiaomi Mix 4 will be available in China starting August 16 with prices as follows:

8GB/128GB = CNY 4,999 ($770)

12GB/512GB = CNY 6,299 ($970)
