It always fascinates me whenever companies released their tablet devices in the market as only a few of manufacturers are still investing in the market space. The tablet market is currently dominated by the likes of Samsung and Apple and Xiaomi is hopping its way up to take a pie on that space.
Together with the launch of the Mix 4 flagship device, Xiaomi also introduced the new Mi Pad 5 and it’s a new statement of tablet devices from Xiaomi which followed up the Mi Pad 4 in 2018 and it really comes with a lot of changes compared to its predecessor.
The Mi Pad 5 is available in two main variants with the vanilla Mi Pad 5 in Wi-Fi only connectivity and the Mi Pad 5 Pro that is available in both Wi-Fi and 5G versions. The Mi Pad 5 runs on Snapdragon 860 SoC while the Pro variant runs on Snapdragon 870 SoC with 6GB/8GB of RAM and storage at 128GB/256GB.
The Mi Pad 5 series is built around an a 10-bit panel at 11-inch IPS LCD display with a 2.5K resolution screen and having a 120Hz refresh rate. It supports Dolby Vision with TrueTone technology, HDR10 support with up to 500nits of screen brightness.
For imaging, the Mi Pad 5 comes with a with a single 13MP camera on the back while the Wi-Fi only Pro variant includes a dual camera setup with a 13MP primary backed by a 5MP Ultra Wide. The Pro 5G on the other hand upgrades the dual camera setup to a 50MP primary sensor with the same 5MP Ultra wide as a secondary camera. The Mi Pad 5 series comes with an 8MP front-facing camera as standard for all variants.
Keeping the lights on the Mi Pad 5 is a 8,720mAh embedded battery which supports 33W fast charging. The Pro version gets a smaller capacity battery though but compensates with a faster 67W fast charging.
The Mi Pad 5 series runs on MIUI 12.5 for Pad which for me is looking a lot like an iPadOS from Apple. Can’t blame Xiaomi though with their choice as it still makes a lot better experience with multi-screen support for over 300+ apps.
While everything we’ve mentioned what all about the tablet it self, now the goodies of accessories that Xiaomi also made available for the new Mi Pad 5 is quite interesting as well.
The series supports a Magnetic keyboard and stylus, If you are familiar with the Apple iPad Pro 11 or Galaxy Tab S7 from Samsung, then you’ll get the idea pretty easily but for some who don’t, the magnetic keyboard has a flap that latches on the Mi Pad 5 magnetically and the keyboard itself attaches to the tablet though magnetic pins.
The new Xiaomi Stylus also comes support magnetic attachment and charging to the Mi Pad 5 and comes with two buttons on the side for various functions. It offers a sensitive 240Hz touch sampling rate and could last for about 8 hours on a single charge.
