Xiaomi is in hot water recently when the US added the company on the Blocklist in the country, citing allegations linking Xiaomi to the Chinese government, in which the company had openly denied.
Users in the China recently found that Xiaomi’s proprietary user interface MIUI no longer allow the installation of Google Services on their Xiaomi devices.
In China, it’s a common practice from numerous manufacturers to not install Google apps and services on their devices as the country have their own alternative apps and ecosystem that doesn’t require Google Mobile Services (GMS) and because of the fact that Google is basically banned in China but users can install GMS on their own if they needed to.
However that’s no longer the cases for MIUI China-based ROM’s and this was confirmed by Xiaomi stating that the said feature is no longer supported.
Global version of MIUI is not affected by this issue (at least at the moment).
