The Redmi K40 to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, coming this February
The success of the Redmi K20 Series has been the most influential release that Xiaomi had in recent years and that was followed by the Redmi K30 series last year, though the later had earned mix reviews throughout its run but it was still considered a success for Xiaomi and for the Redmi brand.
As expected, the New Year means that smartphone manufacturers are preparing for their next devices. Xiaomi started off with the launched of the new Mi 11 before the New Year’s day which made the handset the first Snapdragon 888-based device in the world.
It was also rumored recently that Xiaomi has a new mystery device down the pipeline that’s ready to go and that it will also be running on the Snapdragon 888. As it turned out that, the mystery device is the upcoming Redmi K40 and this was confirmed by Redmi’s General Manager, Lu Weibing through a post on Weibo.
According to the Weibo post, the Redmi K40 will be unveiled in China next month and it confirmed that it will have the new Snapdragon 888 on board turning this one as one of the early flagship device for Redmi.
While Lu Weibing doesn’t come with much detail on the upcoming Redmi K40, it did mentioned that it would have a 4,000mAh battery and a flat but premium display. It also mentioned that the device will go on sale at a starting price of CNY2,999 or roughly about US$463.
We can’t say much about the specs for the Redmi K40 but this will become a mix of both flagship and mid-range specs and with that aggressively low price, It might just be the most affordable Snapdragon 888 powered device and a better way to celebrate the start of the year.
