Rumors about Huawei flagship devices might have been focussed on the new P20 and the P20 Pro, but at the special event held in Paris, Huawei surprisingly (though there were rumors about it, however not as massive) unveils the latest flagship smartphone for the Porsche Design Mate RS. With RS means “Racing Sports” and like the actual machines behind the name, the new Mate RS is built on Speed and luxury.

Though basically the new Porsche Design Mate RS is just a P20 Pro at its core, they are different in features and design with the Mate RS having a 6.0-inch with 2260 x 1140 resolutions with a slightly curved edges like that one we find on the Galaxy S9’s. Besides that, the Mate RS also does not have a notch on top of the display so users should be able to enjoy everything on screen without having to make up with the compromise involved in having the notch and below the display is a prominent Porsche Design logo which should fairly distinguishes itself from all of Huawei devices.

In terms of imaging, the Mate RS borrows the same triple camera setup co-engineered with Leica from the P20 Pro along with all the features that it has including its 40 Megapixel RGB sensor, a 20 Megapixel monochrome and its 8 Megapixel telephoto sensor which all in all brings up to 3x optical zoom and 5x of hybrid zoom. With this setup, it brings lossless zoom that doesn’t lower the quality of shots at most. These sensors are oriented at the middle of the back of the handset. It also comes with a 24 Megapixel Selfie camera and its Face Unlock features. All of these imaging prowess are possible thanks to the AI algorithm that’s built into the heart of the handset.

While imaging tends to resonate from all of the Mate RS, other entertainment features are included as well. The superb display counts to that already and we have dual SLS speakers with Dolby ATMOS cinematic 3D sound for superior surround sound with dynamic sound rage. AI ambient sound recognition automatically reduce noise from ambient source for clearer and crisp audio.

The Mate RS is powered by no less than the latest Kirin 970 SoC with built-in NPU responsible for every AI assisted features on the handset and a powerful Mali-G72 MP12 Graphics processor. These processing beast is covered by 6GB of RAM and a choice of either 256 and the first for mobile devices a real 512GB internal storage for smartphones. It doesn’t include a microSD card support though but with that amount of storage from the start, one really must have a plenty of contents to fill that up.

Another thing from Huawei that surprises everyone is the new in-screen fingerprint scanner, who would have thought that since Huawei has been silent about it all this time and here we have the new Mate RS along with that feature. That’s not all, the handset also has a secondary physical fingerprint reader on the back, talk about convenience.

Besides these new features which a few of them aren’t even available on Huawei’s flagship, the Mate RS is a world’s first smartphone built with microcapsule PCM – an aerospace cooling technology for maintaining a safe temperature. It also has a large 4000mAh embedded battery with Huawei SuperCharge feature and wireless fast charging capabilities.

The new Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS is set to launch on April 12th and will be available in either Red or Black color options. For its pricing, the 256GB variant costs €1,695 (108,975 Php) and the 512GB version will set back at €2,095 (134,690 Php). Understandably, the Porsche Design edition Mate RS is a luxury device with features not even offered to Huawei’s top of the line flagship offering so it’s for someone who really has the credits to shell in with these kind of devices and not for the faint hearted.
