If you want something big for a flagship device because you just can afford one, Samsung has the right device for you. Announced at Samsung UNPacked part 2, the new Galaxy S6 edge+ goes hand in hand with the new generation Galaxy Note5 in terms of sheer screen size and underlying technologies.
The Galaxy S6 edge+ is basically a large Galaxy S6 edge launched earlier this year with a double curved edge display, It is indeed a step up in Samsung’s design philosophy that inspires. With these curved displays, Samsung was able to create new experiences, bring out features that specifically designed on such displays. The design was so unique that Samsung has proved that it’s not all about following the standards but making a difference so to create new standards on how we devices are built and how we look at it.
The Galaxy S6 edge+ is significantly larger in screen size as the Galaxy Note5 at 5.7-inch compared to the 5.1-inch of the original Galaxy S6 edge but stayed low on footprint and is even thinner than the original. It too carries the same 2K superAMOLED display from the original Galaxy S6 edge that you’ll get somewhat confused as to when of the two is the larger version as then shared almost everything if not on the screen size. The glass back is there including the metallic frame and how the buttons and the speaker are located, well we really cant tell the difference either.
Processing power of 2015’s flagship is also carried on the “+” version of the handset which houses an 8-core Samsung Exynos 7420 SoC but this time around, the campany now slot the device with 4 GB of RAM to give the handset an even more of an edge from the rest. But unfortunately, there’s no microSD card slot either so users are stock with either 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage space.
The camera stays on the same level with a 16 Megapixel image sensor capable of recording 4K resolution videos. It features a f/1.9 aperture with smart Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) with smart Real-Time HDR capabilities. The front camera should favor anyone who loves to take a Selfie with the handset’s 5 Megapixel front camera.
The new handset runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Samsung TouchWiz on top, While the battery stays embedded, Samsung has offered a slightly upgraded power pack which now rates at 3000 mAh like the Galaxy Note5. It also ensures fast charging from either wired or wireless mode.
Like the Galaxy Note5, the Galaxy S6 edge+ will also launch in the US this coming August 21st which Samsung already started accepting pre-orders right after their announcement.
