With two new variants detected from samples in Cebu, experts believed that lockdowns are no longer needed to contain the spread of the virus but the number says otherwise as COVID-19 cases in Cebu and the entire Region 7 continue to rise day by day.
As of February 18, the entire Cebu recorded a total of 539 new COVID-19 cases. At the top is Cebu City with 282 new cases while the province of Cebu got 143 new cases. Lapu-Lapu City also recorded 54 new cases and Mandaue City with 60.
As for the rest of Region 7, Negros Oriental have reported 11 new COVID-19 cases and Bohol with 9. Siquijor reports no new cases as of today.
The region currently have a total of 5,581 active cases with 559 as new. Newly reported recoveries are at 213 while COVID-19 related deaths in the region is now at 1,526 after 7 new deaths were reported today.
