Sony to update a plethora of Xperia devices with Android 5.1 Lollipop, expected to start rolling out in July

Contrary to earlier announcements, Sony has made a surprising announcement today which gave users and fans a reason to celebrate. Besides the Xperia Z series, Sony is also lining up other Xperia family as eligible devices for the Android 5.1 Lollipop update which will gradually roll out soon.

While the Lollipop update has been hitting the Xperia Z series for quite some time, it was not until recently that Sony announces plans to include almost all the Xperia line with hardware capable enough for a Lollipop upgrade. With Sony working on the update for different devices, the Lollipop update for the Xperia M2, the Xperia M2 Aqua and other dozens of Xperia devices is said to be ready for deployment by July.

As updates rolls out gradually region by region, Sony Xperia users may have to wait a little longer until the update gets through their devices. Xperia handsets are designed to check updates automatically from Sony’s servers and downloads necessary updates when they become available, Unless users turned off their automatic updates.

As for the list of Xperia devices expected to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update are as follows:

Sony Xperia Z3 series :  Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

Sony Xperia Z2 series: Xperia Z2 andXperia Z2 Tablet

ony Xperia Z1 series: Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition

ony Xperia Z series: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z

The Sony Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and the Xperia C3.
