Smartphone app Warblr lets you identify that bird through the sound they make
Technology and Science are meant to converge to not just help us understand the nature that surrounds us but also coexist with it. Warblr, an app that anyone could install on their smartphones or any compatible devices identifies our feathery friends through their sounds or bird songs. The technology behind this incredible app uses sound recognition technology and the device’s built-in GPS.
Warblr first identifies your location and then using your phone’s mic to gather data for bird identification, when done, the app will present a list of possible bird specie/s in your current location. The developers primary intention for the creation of the app is to add geo-tracking to track a particular bird specie in a particular area. This simple app and its underlying technologies is mainly helpful for ecologists and zoologists to study the birds migration and behavioral patterns in which under optimal condition has output results with 95% accuracy. The result is also validated by a Brazilian bird identification organization which has increased the level of confidence when using the app.
As of now, the developers are crowdfunding campaign for further development of the app which now has garnered £4,096 and is raising towards their £50,000 target. The team behind the development aim to release the app by next spring.
