Sharp finally made two new smartphones in its Aquos line, the Aquos Crystal and the Aquos Crystal X in Japan. Both devices features the slimmest bezel yet in a smartphone. Though Sharp has been seen in our local market recently, but their devices doesn’t have the edge as compared to other brands in the market until today. The new Aquos Crystal will definitely set a new standard in smartphone design as it feature premium material and aesthetics.

The base model Aquos Crystal is a mid-range android device despite the premium coat. On the outside is a 5-inch 720p display with a close to zero bezel on 3 corners giving the idea of an almost edge to edge display which will definitely be a head turner. Under the hood though is a different story, the Aquos Crystal runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC in a 1.2 GHz Quad-core setup, couple that with 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage space and a microSD slot for memory expansion.

It runs Android 4.4 (KitKat) with less customization and modifications from the manufacturer which will closely bring a pure Android experience. Though the Sprint version will have a couple of new apps for the new handset. A gesture based screenshot tool and App Pass which is a subscription based app service.

The new Aquos Crystal also comes with Harman Kardon sound effects with Clari-Fi and LiveStage support with full compatibility on Harman Kardon ONYX bluetooth speaker. It also include LTE support for fast internet connection and it comes with a 2,040 mAh battery.

The Aquos Crystal unlike any 5-incher device, measure a little less with a dimension of 131 x 67 x 10 mm. Though it’s a little thick from other devices of the same display width, the weight fairly falls into a considerable limit. The light plastic perforated back cover added the premium feel but not that as close as the one we have with Samsung’s Galaxy S5, Nevertheless the back has complemented the overall appearance and the weight of the device.

The Aquos Crystal comes with a mid-range specs, it’s larger sibling says otherwise, Sharp’s Aquos Crystal X is sharps flagship device, despite its beautiful craftsmanship, the Aquos Crystal X is current bound as Sharp’s exclusive flagship for Japan. It takes the same design as the Aquos Crystal but larger. It’s got a large 5.5-inch full HD panel with the same edge-to-edge display. Not only that, the Aquos Crystal X comes with upgraded specs from its smaller brother. It is powered by a beefier Snapdragon 801 Quad-core processor running at 2.3 GHz, a 2GB RAM and a larger 32 GB of built-in storage with memory expansion option.

Everything else on the Aquos Crystal seem to port a larger counterpart of itself on the Crystal X, though the latter is currently a Japan’s exclusive, knowing that Sharp has already made a few entries of its devices in the Philippine market, it won’t be long that either of the Aquos Crystal variants will reach the Philippine soil most especially the flagship variant as most Filipino’s are willing to shell out a considerable amount of cash just to get the high-end variant at anywhere possible, otherwise the black market will bring the handset here locally.
