Samsung has a flagship Galaxy S series device coming and as it goes globally, Samsung is making sure that customers are getting the best out of it with its own, home-grown processor with the new Samsung Exynos 2100 SoC.
The new mobile processor can be compared to the recently launched Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm as they have shared the same build. Like the SD 888, the new Exynos 2100 is an 8-core ARM-based architecture based on 5nm EUV comprising a new high-performance Cortex-X1 core at 2.9GHz together with a trio of Cortex-A78 cores. For power efficiency, there’s a total of four Cortex-A55 cores. With this new configuration, Samsung claims up to 30% of CPU performance boosts in multi-core tasks compared to the Exynos 990.
The new SoC comes with a new 14-cores Mali-G78 GPU with up to 40% performance boost from its predecessor. It also comes with a 3-core Neural Processing Unit with up to 26 TOPS. Samsung also implemented a multi-IP governor to optimize the power usage of CPU, GPU and other processes.
The Exynos 2100 also includes a new Image Signal Processor that supports cameras of up to 200 Megapixel, If you’ve remember, Samsung is working on such sensor. It can also connect to six individual sensors and process data from four of these sensors simultaneously.
With more improvements on Pixel binning / Ultra Pixel technologies, the new SoC comes with a Multi-camera and Frame Processor (MCFP) with also works with the built-in NPU to stitch image data from multiple camera for better quality photos.
As it becomes clear that 5G is the next generation of wireless networks, the Exynos 2100 pave the way for built-in 5G modem supporting mmWave and Sub-6 network.
The we mentioned from the start, the new Samsung Exynos 2100 is set to power the new Galaxy S21 (rumored flagship name) that is for specific models depending on the region.
