A subject of rumors and mentioning but the Galaxy A8 (2016) didn’t went out until today as Samsung has officially announced the handset in South Korea. Similarly with its predecessor, the new Galaxy A8 (2016) made a mirroring resemblance to the model that it replaced only that it changed this time is the unnoticeable shorter body by 2mm and a slightly thicker body. With that, the 2016 version gained in weight which now at 182 grams compared to last year’s 151 grams.
Everything else seems to have carried on since the design introduced last year including its full metal build and you won’t notice their differences straightforward but the defining factor between the two is on their features. This year’s models comes with the Grace UX sitting atop of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow which have been introduced on the Galaxy Note7 and by that it means it includes the user interface refinements and improved user experience and also, it now supports the Always On display feature which proved to be useful since it debut with the Galaxy S7 this year.
The Galaxy A8 (2016) carries the same 5.7-inch super AMOLED display in full-HD resolution, unarguably Samsung’s AMOLED display is one of the best mobile display that you’ll get from any device and knowing it’s popularity on almost all of Samsung’s product line, there’s no need to introduce us to such an incredible display.
To give it a slight edge, Samsung opted to upgrade the internals which is already an obvious move. Like we’ve mentioned, the Galaxy A8 (2016) runs on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) but we bet it would be upgrade to Android 7.0 (Nougat) in time but at the time of production, Samsung made the sets in place with Marshmallow and that could be the reason for the handset to carry a slightly outdated OS over the current version 7.0 of today. Running the show is also a slight make over which now uses Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 chipset with 8-core processors which then is linked to 3GB of system RAM and 32GB of expandable storage space. The new handset also support microSD cards of up to 256GB just in case you’ll need more space for your files and stuff.
For photography, the Galaxy A8 (2016) comes with 16 Megapixel main camera and features the same amount of goodies from its predecessor however the front camera got a slight upgrade which now has bumped to 8 megapixel with the same f/1.9 Aperture for more desirable night shots.
For the rest of the features, the Galaxy A8 (2016) only got the minor updates from last year. Knowingly, the Galaxy A8 and the Galaxy A8 (2016) incorporates a fingerprint sensor and now supports Samsung Pay services, there’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and microUSB 2.0 comes as standard. The battery is slightly upgraded to 3300 mAh that now hopes to give more juice to the handset to enjoy everything there is on the new Galaxy A8(6).
As the new handset is currently announced only for the Korean market, SK Telecom got the exclusive first hold of the device and is available in Blue color for649,000 Won ($580) sinceOctober 1. As of now, Samsung haven’t made any press release for international availability but looking at their success in other regions, it might just do it in the next few daysor so.
