Sooner even the entry-level or perhaps a mid-range devices will be embedded with a larger internal storage space as Samsung develops a workaround to include more memory modules on a 3-bit NAND-based embedded MultiMedia Card (eMMC) 5.0 technology. Samsung has created a 128 GB of eMMC using the new technique an is targeting the smartphone and tablet for the mass-market.

Samsung has focused itself to produce more 3-bit NAND-based Chip and is expected to top in the expansion of high-density mobile storage. As flagship devices are now transitioning to a larger 128 GB storage space based on Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 2.0 or the more enhanced eMMC 5.1 specifications, entry-level and mid-range devices are also given the ability to increase their storage capacity to 128 GB as well.

But despite the new developments however, the new 128 GB eMMC 5.0 wont be as fast as the UFS-based modules but still is capable of data transfer rate of up to 250 MB per second. It is also seen that the new eMMC 5.0 modules are capable of 6,000 Input|Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) and 5,000 IOPS respectively for Random Read and Write operations. These figures show that the new eMMC 5.0 cards are four to ten times faster from a typical standard external memory cards.

Though it wont become available to consumers instantly but we could expect the new memory modules to become available on devices in the next few months as manufacturers starts to adopt and embed these memory modules on their devices not only with Samsung devices but also to other manufacturers that utilizes Samsung’s storage solutions.
