Samsung took the wraps off from the rugged version of the company’s flagship with the new Galaxy S6 Active. It may not be here today in our local shores but surely in the future, Samsung will be bring the handset down to our retail outlets just like it did in the past. With the Korean tech giant making the handset official, the US wireless carrier AT&T just got a hold of an exclusive distribution of the handset for the time being, signalling a third year in a row exclusivity to bring the first batch of devices to customers.
With an active lifestyle in mind, the rugged Galaxy S6 Active brings durability and full smartphone experience to the adventure driven market and outdoor-loving customers. Unlike in the past, Samsung is bringing the high-end features to the most active users with whatever adventure they will go through, the Galaxy S6 Active can always sustain their needs. With an IP68 certification the Galaxy S6 Active can go as deep as 1.5 meters underwater for 30 minutes and can also withstand dust and scratches as well.
As it started with the Galaxy S4 Active some three years ago, the Active series may look somewhat similar with their base models but not quite the same until today, Samsung finds the Galaxy S6 design to go too well with a rugged body that they have taken all the design cues from the regular Galaxy S6 and placed another layer of rugged, metallic shell to bring the Galaxy S6 Active. Though as it stays relevant to its predecessors, the Galaxy S6 Active keeps to retain the physical buttons on the front. As these buttons are no longer what they used to be with the regular Galaxy S6, the Galaxy S6 Active had to let go of the fingerprint sensor for that matter.
The Galaxy S6 Active has the same 5.1-inch Quad-HD display with 577 ppi with content adaptive feature which automatically optimized the display based on the content that you are viewing, under the hood is an 8-core 64-bit Samsung processor with 32 GB of internal storage for processing and accommodation.
Like the regular Galaxy S6. the Active variant of the handset also comes with the same camera features as it includes the 16 Megapixel main camera on the back and the 6 Megapixel shooter on the front with both cameras can be instantaneously activated by double tapping the Home button. The main camera features all the same functionalities as the Galaxy S6 with an Auto-Real Time High Dynamic Range (HDR) features that can capture real-time stunning images at whatever light conditions possible. The front camera on the other hand has a wide-angle lens and high-resolution sensor to accommodate all selfie related shots and high quality video calls.
Either on the social, business or a more active lifestyle, the Galaxy S6 Active got you covered, it runs on the new Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI interface, the handset comes with a secured layer of Samsung KNOX security features with support for MDM partners. For the more adventurous type, the Galaxy S6 Active comes equipped with Active Zone features for an easy to use and easy to launch software and hardware features including a built-in Compass, a Torchlight, alarms and more.
To keep and active lifestyle, the device should keep itself active at all times as well that’s why unlike the Galaxy S6 or most of its variants, the Galaxy S6 Active got a surprisingly large capacity battery, 3,500 mAh to be exact of power to keep the adventure going. It also support wireless charging capabilities with an optionally wireless charging accessory and fast charging option with a separate fast-charger which should juice-up the handset up to 50% of power in just 30 minutes.
Unlike its predecessors with under-powered specs when compared to their base variants, the Galaxy S6 Active this time follows a familiar footprint which taking most of the specs found on the latest flagship Samsung device and as we’ll describe below, it’s up for you to judge.
