Samsung Galaxy ALPHA now official. Packs Metal Frame, Octa-core and Android 4.4 (KitKat)
After countless rumors and leaks, Samsung has finally made its first premium metal bodied device the Galaxy ALPHA. The device was believed to be unveiled alongside with Galaxy Note 4 on IFA 2014, but that wont be happening now as the new ALPHA is getting the spotlight first before the next Samsung UNPacked event which is anticipated to accommodate a different line of flagship device.
The new Samsung ALPHA comes with what every Samsung fan would wish that their device would be. Lined with an exposed metal trims, the new device indeed has a full frame but the back battery cover features a faux leather finish similar to the Galaxy S5. It seems that Samsung has finally taken the cue from which Apple has been enjoying for a while now, and before the iPhone 6 will hit the market, the Korean tech giant opt to start the pace ahead of its competitor, building reputation and gaining enough users for the new series.
Despite the premium build quality, at the heart of it, users will get the basic specs as opposed to the high-end specs from today’s flagship devices. It comes with a large 4.7-inch sAMOLED display sporting a 720p resolutions, a Exynos 5 Octa-core processor comprising a 4-core Cortex-A15 running at 1.8 GHz and 4-core Cortex-A7 at 1.3GHz, 2 GB of RAM and a non-expandable 32 GB built-in storage.
Imaging is also part of today’s handset and with that, Samsung has added a 12 Megapixel main camera with 4K video recording and a 2.1 Megapixel camera on the front for most important selfies and high-resolution video calls. The latter needs to be aided by a high-speed internet connection which wont be a problem with the new Galaxy ALPHA as it supports LTE Cat.6 connectivity in addition to the standard Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC connectivity combo.
Categorized as a flagship device from Samsung, It includes the usual sensors plus a handful of fitness and health monitoring features which includes a Heart Rate sensor and fingerprint scanner which is fully compatible with Samsung Gear devices. It also includes accompanying apps exclusively available from Samsung such as S Health and Ultra-Low Power saving mode, plus an array of Google apps and services ready to use when users turns on the device for the first time.
Even at a premium level, Samsung only managed to include a 1,860 mAh battery on Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) with TouchWiz UI on top. It weighs 115 grams with a dimension of 132.4 x 65.5 x 6.7 mm. Color options includes: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver and Scuba Blue. The new Galaxy ALPHA will be released in 150 different countries simultaneously this coming September.
