Rumors: Apple could have a 12 Megapixel camera on the upcoming iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

With every iterations of different smartphones in the market, one major key enhancement is focused on the camera. Apple on the other hand have nailed itself on the 8 Megapixel arena since the iPhone 4s despite competitions going for a larger and denser two-digit Megapixel sensors. Later this year however as the Cuppertino giant will once again make its anticipated announcement with the alleged iPhone 6s, the upcoming update to the successful iPhone 6 is rumored to include an updated camera by stepping up the Megapixel count from 8 to 12.

Though rumors like this had been circulated and even discussed by enthusiasts, fans and analysts online in the past, it seems that such topic just refuses to die out and with the latest rumor which is even backed by CEO Kevin Wang of IHS – a research firm in China. According to Wang, this year’s upcoming Apple iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus will indeed use a 12 Megapixel sensor for its camera but there’s a catch, given the thin profile of both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, Apple will make use of the same sensor footprint while increasing the Megapixel numbers in smaller pixels.

Though it’s possible, many have speculated about the moves that Apple could make. One theory that could jeopardize such claim is that by making the pixels smaller, it may direct less light to the camera sensor which may pose an undesirable results. With Apple’s highest quality controls however, it’s up to the engineers to come up with ideas on how to fit a relatively large camera sensor on the next iPhone without doing much of redesigns on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus camera modules.

At the moment, users and fans should take this information with a grain of salt until Apple would official recognize such claims. Until then, we’ll see and wait on what Apple could do with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus as it is expected to have a major new enhancements and features over the existing iPhone 6 models.
