Moving past SM City Cebu this afternoon, I noticed a giant billboard hang from the establishment and it’s the ad of the next Selfie Expert from Oppo with local celebrity endorsers on the giant image ad. I was moving through and were behind the wheel so I could not take a photo of it. But anyway the anticipated Oppo device for this year just got itself official in India and it turn heads actually.

The new Oppo F7 relatively shares the same DNA as the R15 with the F7 being the mid-range and the R15 as the flagship. I does however completed the lineup of this year’s primary Oppo devices with the former and the latter devices takes a hold on their own market along with the Oppo A1 which was also announced just recently and the holder of the entry-level segment.

The Oppo F7 has a large 6.23-inch FullView display in Full-HD+ resolutions. Like the Oppo R15, the F7 also includes a display notch on top of the display which houses a very special sensor that we are going to talk about in a sec.

The notch on the front houses all the essential sensors on the front including the earpiece and (Hold your breath…) a 25 Megapixel Selfie camera with an f/2.0 Aperture. That’s right, geared to continue its legacy as the Selfie Expert, the Oppo F7 is one of the rarest to include a gigantic imaging sensor on the front in terms of pixel counts. No only that, the new F7 is AI enabled which should take taking photos to a whole new level.

Software governs the F7’s imaging hardware and engineers are putting the best they could to make the new handset as the new Selfie King. With HDR capabilities, the Selfie front camera will be able to stand in different lighting conditions. AI looks to dominate this year’s smartphone devices and the F7 is on that bandwagon. With AI technologies, the F7’s camera system can easily recognize male and female and enhance their features accordingly. It also features a new AR Stickers, something like that we always enjoyed on SnapChat and Messenger and other messaging service alike, only this time, they are built into the device itself.

From the Selfie taking task, the front camera system on the Oppo F7 is can also unlock the phone with its own Face Unlock feature, you won’t get the same level of tech used on the iPhone X but the AI software that’s built into the system uses 128 recognition points to unlock the device, which that means that it has to see the users face with eyes open to unlock the device.

Besides the front-facing camera, the F7 is also equipped with a 16 Megapixel rear camera. The sensor comes with a bright f/1.8 Aperture lens and is supported by LED flash. It too is equipped with AI algorithm so it should take quite impressive photos nonetheless.

While we were really impressed with the imaging-centric features, let’s move on to the system specs. The handset is powered by a MediaTek chipset with the latest Helio P60 with an octa-core CPU, it has either 4GB/64GB or 6GB/128GB of RAM and built-in storage combos with a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion. Fingerprint sensor is located on the back, oriented all the same as the F5, its predecessor.

Like all other handsets, the new Oppo F7 supports LTE and legacy network connections including 3G and GSM and standard connectivity support including W-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Despite the new technologies placed into the handset, Oppo still equipped the new F7 with microUSB 2.0 interface though this isn’t as bad as one would imagine, a USB-C could have seal the deal.

The Oppo F7 runs on 3400 mAh embedded battery and is driven by Oppo’s ColorOS 5.0 proprietary user interface based on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo.

As for the price, the new Oppo F7 starts at 21,990 INR (17,990 Php) for the 4GB/64GB variant in Solar Red, Moonlight Silver and Diamond Black colors. The 6GB/128GB version will set you back at 26,990 INR (21,990 Php) and will be available in Solar Red and Diamond Black color variants. In India, the new handset will go on sale this coming April 9 with an exclusive availability online only at Flipkart.
