Firefox OS has promised a significant alternative to other mobile operating systems with a complete community-based platform that enables a direct running of web applications with in the operating system in addition to native apps using web standards such as HTML 5, javascripts and open-web API that enabled web-based apps to communicate directly with hardware. The popularity of two mobile operating system giants in the market has slowed the uptake of Firefox OS and announced the firm will stop sales of Firefox OS enable devices from carriers.

Despite all its best efforts, Mozilla will soon ceased support for the Firefox OS. The operating system that launched in 2013 has just been two years old but it seems like the organization can’t penetrate even the lightest part of the mobile market that’s been dominated by Apple iOS and Google Android. The news came out earlier in December of last year when Mozilla announced that the company simply couldn’t create its desired mobile ecosystem on the limited sources available. Now that Mozilla has officially announced its plans for the dying OS, it will soon end support for the OS in a few months time.

Mozilla is still on its way to release version 2.6 of the operating system and after that it will terminated its further development and support by May of this year. Developers who wishes to submit their apps to Mozilla’s marketplace for Android, Desktop and Tablet will have until the 29th of March to do so and after that point, any apps that does not support the Firefox OS will be removed. However, new apps for the Firefox OS will be accepted until 2017.With Mozilla’s failure to gain a significant traction of its Firefox OS, the firm will now be focusing on Internet of Things.
