Motorola wasn’t doing great recently that the company slowed down on having new devices in the market with only a few in 2019. This year is going to be different though as Motorola finally launched its latest generation flagship devices in the market with the new Motorola Edge series.

The new flagship devices are the new Motorola Edge+ and the Motorola Edge. Both devices follows the company new concept of “Endless Edge” with a beautiful Waterfall screen and are all ready for 5G.

Motorola Edge+

This is the company’s new Flagship device for its high-end phones with a 6.7-inch HDR10+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and a full-HD+ resolution. There’s a smaller camera hole on the top left corner of the display that houses a 25 Megapixel camera.

Speaking of camera, the Edge+ includes a main triple camera system on the back and surprisingly comes with a 108 Megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 Aperture lens and features an OIS and PDAF.

Together with the main camera is an 8 Megapixel Telephoto shooter with 3x optical Zoom and also features OIS and PDAF. And then it also has a 16 Megapixel sensor with an Ultra Wide lens and that can also double as a macro camera. There’s also a fourth sensor in the mix and that’s its ToF sensor responsible for depth detection.

The flagship device runs Android 10.0 out of the box and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset that is coupled to a fast 12GB LPDDR5 RAM with 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. 5G connectivity with backward support for LTE and 3G. It’s got the new WiFi6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and USB-C connectivity.

Feature-wise, the Motorola Edge+ includes an In-display fingerprint scanner, Dual Stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack which we seldom see on flagship devices today.

The device is 6.9mm thick and weighs 203 grams but Motorola managed to squeeze in a huge 5,000 mAh battery and supports basic 18W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. It also features Reverse wireless charging with other compatible device at 5W.

The new Motorola Edge+ will be available in Smokey Sangria and Thunder Grey color variants and will be a Verizon exclusive starting on May 14 in the US for $1,000. Global availability is also expected with pricing varies on different regions.

The sibling share the same design and almost the same dimension as they differ less than a quarter of a millimeter. That being said, the Edge includes a similar display size as the Edge+ at 6.7-inch of AMOLED display with all the features including the 90Hz refresh rate except that the vanilla Edge version has shaved off the HDR10+ support.

Like the Edge+, Motorola Edge boots Android 10 but it is powered by a lesser powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and is either equipped with 4GB RAM for the US market or 6GB for the global version. It comes with 128GB of storage as standard and includes a microSD card slot for storage expansion which by the way the Edge+ is missing.

For imaging, the Motorola Edge comes with a 25 Megapixel Selfie camera while the back comes with a quad camera setup that includes a 64 Megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 Aperture lens, 8 Megapixel Telephoto with 2x Zoom and a 16 Megapixel camera with Ultra Wide lens and lastly a TOF camera for depth sensing.

The battery on the Motorola Edge is a 4500 mAh embedded battery and supports 18W wired fast charging and it lacks wireless charging as well.

On features, the vanilla Motorola Edge also includes in-display fingerprint scanner, the already 5G connectivity, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, USB-C and a headphone jack.

The new Motorola Edge will be available in Solar Black and Midnight Magenta at 599 Euros. It will hit Europe, Latin America and the Asia Pacific around May this year and later in the US.
