Just recently, rumors have circulated regarding the real score between Huawei and Leica’s partnership when they both developed the P9 flagship handset which suggests that Huawei seems to imply the Leica haven’t really had so much participation on their said co-engineering with the P9’s camera module when it was under development.

According to rumors, Leica on part a small participation during the manufacturing of the dual camera module of the P9 and that Leica isn’t entirely involved in providing the appropriate hardware needed to build the module and even the lens used as they were allegedly developed by a third-party Chinese company calledSunny Optical Technology. In addition to that, the rumor also suggests that the Leica’s involvement with Huawei’s flagshipis all about branding and providing a certification that the camera hardware component used on the handset met Leica’s quality standards.

But today, Hauwei made a clear statement on what has been a seemingly wrong information that has been passed on online with a official statement regarding the issue quoted below:

The P9 and P9 Plus were co-engineered between Huawei and Leica. This is the first collaboration between the two companies following a long-term partnership that was announced in February. From the very beginning, Leica has been deeply involved in the development of these devices. There has been significant technological collaboration between Huawei and Leica around many aspects of the camera, including optical design, imaging quality, image data processing, optimization, and the mechanical construction of the camera module to the graphic user interface. The devices meet Leicas highest imaging quality standards.

With Huawei’s official statement, should be a little less worried regarding this concern or should we investigate further?
