Facebook – one of our favorite social networking app may soon reintegrate its messaging platform with the social media app. Jane Manchun Wong a research and code reverse-engineering expert found out after testing the app that Facebook is baking that idea.
According to Wong, the social media giant is laying out the groundwork for integrated messaging across all of its services. While both the Facebook app and its Messenger app would still be available side-by-side on mobile devices. Users from the main Facebook app will no longer have to launch a separate app to message someone.
Launching the messenger on the other hand would launch the Facebook app and takes you directly to its “Chat” section. Long time Facebook users should remember the same thing used to work like this before the company put out a standalone app for messaging.
Besides putting back Messenger’s capabilities to the main Facebook app, the company is also working to unify Whatsapp, Messenger and Instagram messaging apps with end-to-end encryption to ensure user’s privacy but should be able to work as before only that it share the same framework.
The project is expected to become available to mainstream users by the end of 2019 or by early 2020 with thousand of developers working on the project. The Chat section in its current form according to Wong, only supports basic text messaging, there’s still no reactions and even multimedia content sharing. Until then, to enjoy the all the features of Facebook messenger, you’d still want to keep its Messenger app for now.
