DOH warns public of an ever increasing HIV cases
Highest reported case in November with 384 that brings the total number of cases to 4,456
The Department of Health (DOH) warns the public of an ever increasing rate of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) cases in the Philippines.
According to DOH spokesman Eric Tayag, in November alone there have been 384 cases of HIV reported to the agency. That brought the total number of cases to 4,456 infected individuals compared to last year’s 3,338 cases.
As the numbers projected sounds alarming, it’s far more alarming knowing that this numbers do not include unknown infected individuals that continues to infect other people. With that, the Philippines has been listed by United Nation as one of the nine countries in the world with steady rise in HIV infections.
Human Immunodeficiency Virus or commonly known as HIV is the leading cause of AIDS which infects CD4 cells that renders the infected person to be immuno-compromised.
HIV is commonly transmitted through sexual contact, needle sharing, needles pricks or transfusion of HIV infected blood.
