Delete GO SMS Pro NOW! It leaked user shared files without you knowing
Security is virtually non-existent when we go online and with the advent of smartphones, that notion seems to extend even more.
Now without further ado, we urge you to uninstall an app called GO SMS Pro from your smartphone if you have one installed. This week it was revealed that the app comes with a major security risk for users who shared files using the app.
The GO SMS App is one of the popular apps on Google Play and has more than 100 million installs (I remember to have used the app a few times many years ago). The service is usually free but with ads. The service comes with free themes, emoji support, a messenger with the ability share files.
While the app itself is as innocent as it is, the problem lies with the shared files. You see, instead of directly sending any of the shared files to the recipient, the service sends the shared file to a server and what the recipient gets is a URL for that file from which they can tap on to download that file to their device.
What’s alarming is that the URL for any shared files isn’t private meaning, anyone who’s got the right URL for that file can have access to it. Even more so, each URL generated by the app is in sequence from which someone can just alter one character and will be able to view any of these files.
Trustwave who discovered the issue has been trying to contact the app developer but to no avail. Upon checking the app on Google Play, it’s no longer their. If you have one installed on your device, don’t ever think twice on using the app, uninstall the app right away and save yourself.
