Asus new 7-inch slates: MeMo Pad 7 (ME70C) tablet and FonePad 7 (FE171CG) hybrid now available in the Philippines
Asus already had several handsets and tablets ready and available since the start of the year. Together with the 8-inch FonePad that is already available for purchase locally, Asus Philippines is also making the smaller 7-inch variant of the FonePad available in the country with FonePad 7 model FE171CG.
The new FonePad 7 (FE171CG) is the 2015 variant with a slightly different specs to the FonePad FE170CG that came out in 2013. Basically, the latest FonePad 7 is all the same with what the company launched in 2013, the difference is that the latest model got a larger RAM at 2 GB and more room for storage that starts at 16 GB as opposed to the 4 or 8 GB that the first generation FonePad 7 has.
Users for the new FonePad 7 (FE171CG) should find the cameras on the new model more appealing as Asus upgraded these components with better ones and with higher resolutions. For the main camera there’s 5-Megapixel for users to enjoy capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30 fps. On the front is a 2-Megapixel camera with 720p video capture which should be better enough for high-resolution video calls and self-portrait images.
The FonePad 7 is equipped with 2 micro-SIM slots and is compatible with HSPA+, 3G, 2G/GPRS/GSM network support making it a fully functional mobile phone in a slate form-factor. Other connectivity features includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, GPS with GPS-Assist and micro-USB 2.0.
At 280 grams and 7.7 mm thick, the 2015 FonePad 7 runs on a 15Wh Li-Po battery which gives at least 10 hours of battery life with regular usage and is driven by Android 4.4 (KitKat). Asus Philippines is retailing the newly launched slate/phone hybrid for only 6,995.00 Php.

For users who would like a tablet without the telephony capabilities of FonePad’s, then the MeMo Pad 7 (ME70C) is just the right slate. One of the things that makes the MeMo Pad 7 apart from the rest is that Asus was able to sell the tablet at a very low price which could make a difference when compared from both local and other international brand of devices.
The MeMo Pad 7 features the same 7-inch display that the FonePad 7 has and it has the same resolutions too with 1024 x 600 at 215 ppi. For the processing power, the MeMo Pad 7 (ME70C) is also powered by Dual-Core Intel Atom processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM and a choice of either 8 GB or 16 GB internal storage. It also comes with 2-Megapixel main camera on the back and a standard VGA (0.3-Megpixel) camera on the front which enable users to have enjoy video calls and take selfies.
It supports a number of connectivity features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS and a standard USB 2.0 support through a micro-USB port. It comes with a little older Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) on-board but still gets the job done. The tablet is a little thick at 12.7mm but still weighs closers to the FonePad 7 at 275 grams.
The new MeMo Pad 7 is available in the country in two storage variants with 8 GB and 16 GB internal storage at Php 3,995.00 and Php 4,495.00 respectively.
