Asus implements HOYA’s thinnest 3X optical zoom set to the upcoming Zenfone Zoom
With Asus to release the recently teased ZenFone Zoom at CES 2015 in which during the presentation of the new and upcoming ZenFone 2 smartphones, the company also showed a device with a prominent camera module on the back ala Nokia Lumia 1020 on the back for some. The ZenFone Zoom a variant or one of the key new device from Asus designed for mobile photography is equipped with a new camera module featuring a 13-Megapixel PixelMaster sensor with a 3X optical zoom where the upcoming handset got its name.
Before the handset becomes available to consumers, let’s take a look at the technology behind the highly anticipated handset from Asus. To bring the 3X optical zoom to smartphones, Asus seek help from HOYA – the maker of the worlds thinnest 3x optical zoom module with its Cube lens set. Aside from the fact that is comes with 3X optical zoom, the module is also equipped with Optical Image Stabilization housed on a 6mm set.
The handset was introduced in January at CES 2015 and will be available around the second quarter of 2015. This is also the first attempt of Asus to take a bite from the mobile photography scene which is pretty much dominated currently by large players such as Samsung, Sony, Apple or even Microsoft (Then Nokia) with their Pureview technology. But Asus approach proves to be different as they are one of the first to offer a fully functional optical zoom lens without the bulk of an extra-large camera modules.
