As Android 8.0 (Oreo) sets to replace Android 7 (Nougat), HMD Global confirms that the company will be updating all of its Android device lineup to the latest Android OS version. Earlier, HMD already said that they would update all of their devices to the latest version of Android for the next two years and later Google at the Android 8.0 official announcement where the search giant listed Nokia devices to get updated into the latest OS.
The news regarding the matter was from a tweet of HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas a few days ago citing: “All of our smartphones will upgrade to Oreo, Nokia 3 included. No comments yet on timing so that I don’t get into trouble” with an emoji at the end.
With that said, our worries about the entry-level Nokia 3 not getting the updated will eventually die out as for the fact that the statement from Sarvikas already seems to confirm that all Nokia devices will get updated to the new Android Oreo but the CPO did not divulge further the specifics but that’s all that we need at the moment and it’s one of the sweetest news to get start the week.
One of the advantage of Nokia devices from other manufacturers is that all Nokia Android devices under HMD Global comes with a nearly stock Android to begin with and it’s not that surprising that Nokia devices would eventually get updated to the next version of Android and that it should be sharing the same update coverage that Google is imposing to its own branded devices which are 2 years and even more.
