Facebook is giving users more control over what appears on their feeds with a new feature called “Your Algorithm”. Announced by Meta on October 13, the tool allows users to tell Facebook what topics they want to see more or less of in Feed and Reels, making content recommendations more personal.

Instead of relying solely on what users like, comment on, or watch, the feature lets them express their preferences using everyday language. For example, someone could ask to see more technology news, smartphone reviews, and gaming content while reducing recommendations about celebrity gossip or unrelated topics. Meta says its AI-powered ranking systems can understand these requests and adjust recommendations in real time.

Users can access Your Algorithm through the three-dot menu on Facebook posts. The platform is also expanding its Interested and Not interested feedback options, which may prompt users to provide additional details about why they like or dislike particular content. These responses help Facebook better understand their preferences and refine recommendations accordingly.

The feature uses large language models (LLMs) to interpret users’ interests, context, and intentions alongside existing activity signals. While it does not replace Facebook’s recommendation algorithm, it gives users a more direct way to influence it. With Your Algorithm, Meta is taking another step toward making social media feeds feel less like an endless stream of automated recommendations and more like an experience shaped around what people actually want to see.
