Yamaha is bringing its popular MAXI scooter lineup into the electric era with the unveiling of the NMAX E at EICMA 2026 in Milan, Italy. The new electric maxi scooter is designed as a 125cc-equivalent to its ICE counterpart and combines the familiar styling of the NMAX with an all-electric powertrain and modern rider-assistance features.

The NMAX E is powered by a newly developed eAxle electric motor that delivers up to 7.5kW of maximum power and 33.3Nm of torque. It is paired with a fixed 3.5kWh lithium-ion battery. Yamaha claims that the new NMAX E can provide a riding range of up to 104 kilometers under the WMTC testing cycle. Charging is handled by an integrated 800W fanless charger that supports both household power outlets and Type-2 charging. A full charge from empty takes approximately five and a half hours.

Yamaha has also equipped the electric scooter with three selectable riding modes: Sport, Touring, and Eco. These allow riders to adjust power delivery depending on their riding preferences and conditions. Safety features include an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Traction Control System (TCS), while a reverse function makes maneuvering in tight parking spaces easier.

Inside, the NMAX E features a 5-inch full-color TFT instrument display with smartphone connectivity via the Yamaha Motor On app. The system supports turn-by-turn navigation and provides vehicle information, including its location, distance traveled, and remaining battery charge. Despite the switch to electric power, Yamaha has retained much of the NMAX’s familiar MAXI styling.

The scooter features dual-eye LED headlights, distinctive boomerang-shaped side panels, 13-inch wheels, a spacious footboard, and underseat storage capable of accommodating a full-face helmet, depending on its size. A newly developed backbone frame also positions the battery and motor closer to the center of the scooter, helping achieve a lower center of gravity and improved weight distribution.

Yamaha describes the NMAX E as a global-market model, with production handled by Yamaha Motor Vietnam. The company has scheduled its European introduction for spring 2027, with Avio Blue and Platinum Silver as the announced color options. Pricing has yet to be disclosed.
