Microsoft is officially letting go the “Nokia” brand name for Lumia devices
We knew this was coming, one year after Microsoft acquired the former mobile giant Nokia, the company formally announced that they are dropping the Nokia label for its Lumia line of devices. Starting today, the company will be calling the future Lumia devices as Microsoft Lumia with Microsoft’s monochromic four-squared logo on future devices.
Microsoft has been migrating key Nokia websites, mobile product and services under the Microsoft roof for month and the change in its primary branding will be the last step in the migration of the service. The new Microsoft Lumia branding has already being mobilized according to Tuula Rytilä, Microsoft’s Senior Vice President of Marketing. Also Tuula suggested, even though smartphones will no longer carry the Nokia branding, other mobile devices specifically low-end devices will still have to use the brand name as the company have license the brand name for that matter which is still popular especially in developing markets.
Despite the name change, Microsoft will continue to support existing Lumia devices including the recently announced Lumia 830 and Lumia 730/735 and will honor existing customer warranties and will provide the same services and support for these existing Nokia Lumia devices.
