LG’s new V50 ThinQ, G8 ThinQ and G8s ThinQ now official

In recent years, LG is holding back on its mobile ambition with less than the usual flare and more of an update to its existing devices rather than bringing completely new devices. This year continues that trend with an update for both of its two main devices the V and G series.

The new V50 ThinQ is LG’s new primary flagship. It has the same 6.4-inch 3120 x 1440px OLED FullVision display with a notch as the V40 ThinQ but has added 5G radio with Qualcomm’s new X50 modem that promises up to 20X more speed than 4G’s. It is also the company’s first device to sport the Snapdragon 855 chipset.

When it comes to imaging, the V50 ThinQ borrowed V40’s specs that includes at dual front facing camera of 8MP primary shooter and a 5MP depth sensor. On the back, it’s a triple lens system that combines a 12MP main sensor with an f/1.5 Aperture, a 12MP Telephoto with f/2.4 Aperture and a 16MP with an ultrawide f/1.6 Aperture lens.

Another improvement on the V50 ThinQ from its predecessor is a bumped up battery which now is rated at 4000mAh. The rest of the specs includes FM Radio, Stereo speakers, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC and comes with a MIL-STD 810G build.

With the launch of the V50 ThinQ, LG also introduced a Dual Screen accessory that will make the V50 ThinQ experience unique. The case has a full 6.2-inch 2160x1080px display that connects through the back of the handset by pogo pins. This will work as a second screen and would be at best when gaming and other productivity work. Think of it as a foldable phone except that it’s not.

The new V50 ThinQ like we said is the first 5G LG device and will only be available in Aurora Black color.

Along with the new V series, LG also unveiled its G series of devices with the new G8 ThinQ and the G8s ThinQ.

Both devices shares much of the same components but differs with their sizes. The G8 ThinQ comes with a 6.1-inch 1440p+ OLED display and triple lens back camera with 12MP primary, 12MP Telephoto and a 16MP with super wide-angle lens. The handset is juiced by a 3500mAh embedded battery.

The G8s ThinQ on the other hand is larger with a 6.2-inch display but settles with 1080p+ resolution. The back camera has a triple lens module that includes a 12MP primary, 12MP Telephoto and a 13MP ultrawide camera. Battery on the handset is rated at 3550mAh

On the front, the new G8 ThinQ and the G8s ThinQ both comes with an 8MP camera and a ToF 3D camera for 3D palm and Face Unlock. Besides these features, the front 3D camera can also be used to control the G8’s with gesture, take calls, set volume up or down or take a screenshot with LG’s Air Motion feature.
