As Xiaomi is definitely and officially available in the Philippines, the company had set up a small yet significant event late last week which launched two of the hottest devices in their entire lineup and that’s the awaited Redmi Note 5 and the company’s flagship the Mi Mix 2s. Both of these devices are well-known most probably all over the world especially now that Xiaomi starts to expand its reach not only in Asia but in Europe as well.
Redmi Note 5
The Redmi Note 5 for instance is the company’s current flagship bearer for its mid-range handsets with a large 5.99-inch screen configured as an HD+ display. It’s powered by a Qualcomm 636 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage, at least that’s what we are officially getting in the country.
Besides the better internals that the Redmi Note 5 has, the handset is also viewed as more than capable Photography-aligned beast. The main camera is a 12 Megapixel main sensor with a bright f/1.9 Aperture lens that’s coupled to a 5 Megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.0 Aperture. It features PDAF and EIS with a dual-tone LED flash. As for the front, you’ll get a 13 Megapixel Selfie camera and also has a dedicated front-facing LED flash with it.
The body of the new Redmi Note 5 is aluminum with its signature top and bottom antenna lines that’s reminiscent to previous Redmi models. Despite the reused design, the Redmi Note 5 should be comfortable to hold with a lot of grip into it making it more secure to the hands.
The Philippine price for the handset is very significant for its class which sits at 11,990 Php only as compared to its competitors with the same amount of features. That handset will be available for purchase starting tomorrow at Xiaomi’s official Mi Reseller Store and online through its partners Lazada.
Mi Mix 2s
Next is the new Mi Mix 2s. Now we’ve seen a lot of the model lately in the black market and while they are fairly more affordable than most flagship devices in the market, Nothing could have warned us with Xiaomi’s surprisingly cheaper pricing in the country.
Given a flagship status, the Mi Mix 2s is an update of the Mi Mix 2 from last year. As we all know, flagship devices are jumping up with the dual camera system band wagon and also with AI and Xiaomi’s follow-up is as substantial as one could get.
As one of the pioneers in global introduction of almost bezel less displays, the Mi Mix 2s continued the tradition of the series with a thin and virtually bezel less design at least of three of its four corners. You won’t see a notch or something with this either as Xiaomi had strategically placed the front-facing camera at the bottom of the handset, some would find it a little quirky at first but once you’ll get used to it, it’s a breeze to use them actually.
Like the Redmi Note 5, the Mi Mix 2s also comes with a 5.99-inch display but you’ll notice them right upfront that its a tad smaller than the former. It uses an OLED panel so you’ll get deeper blacks and more saturated colors for that matter which is highly remarkable compared to the standard IPS Panel.
It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, the latest in the market together with Adreno 630 graphics chip with a choice of either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. storage options are another thing as well with 64GB and 128GB being available for the 6GB RAM models while a 2456GB internal storage is solely for the 8GB RAM variant. There’s no microSD card support on this one though so one would have to make a choice which of these storage options they’d need.
For imaging, the Mi Mix 2s has been upgraded from the original Mi Mix 2 with a dual sensors on the back. It has two 12 Megapixel sensors with one being a wide-angle camera and a secondary sensor as a Telephoto camera. It has 4-axis OIS, dual-Pixel AF, a dedicated Portrait mode and 2x Optical zoom with LED flash. On the front, the Mi Mix 2s has a unique front-facing placement which do away with the notch by having the camera at the bottom of the handset and it’s a 5 Megapixel sensor, sounds like being a left behind other flagships but it supports Portrait mode and that’s a good thing.
Another thing to note with the Mi Mix 2x is that it doesn’t come with a dedicated audio jack so you’ll have to source out a USB-C based headphone for that matter but Xiaomi has a USB-C to 3.5mm audio to augment that issue thankfully. The Mi MIx 2s is constructed with metal, a glass front and a full ceramic back giving its unique premium feel over all other flagships in the market.
Xioami priced the new Mi Mix 2s for just 27,990.00 for the 6GB/64GB model, The handset should be available for purchase starting next month, so watch for it.
