Xiaomi wants you to forget about cables and charging stands with the new Mi Air Charging Technology
Of all the company that invested on wireless charging technology, Xiaomi standout as it unveiled its new proof-of-concept remote charging with the new Mi Air Charge Technology.
This technology is somewhat not new to science as it is was demonstrated a long-time ago, If one could remember Nicola Tesla who introduced the idea but was forgotten with time.
However, Xiaomi’s concept doesn’t use a a giant Tesla coil but instead incorporated an array of antennas which basically has the same principle as the former.
So how does such technology works? According to Xiaomi, the technology uses space positioning and energy transmission.

Xiaomi’s self-developed isolated charging pile has five phase interference antennas built in, which can accurately detect the location of the smartphone. A phase control array composed of 144 antennas transmits millimeter-wide waves directly to the phone through beamforming.
The Mi Air Charge currently delivers up to 5W of power to a single compatible device within a radius of several meters. Apart from that, multiple devices can also be charged simultaneously even with obstacles along the way with each device having support for 5W remote charging.
That sounds like Sci-Fi doesn’t it?
Yes but it isn’t and Xiaomi isn’t shy to show it off for the first time. The burning question however is; when will this become a consumer product? The answer might depend on how are we ready for such technology as there are other concerns that will be attach to it, including the cost, our health and the environment.
Nevertheless, this makes us more excited for the future of mobility, the time for us to be absolutely free from wires and even more engaged with our mobile devices like we never have to charge it ever because it charges all by itself.
