Xiaomi held a huge event in India late this week and unveiled the company’s update to the highly spec flagship device with the new Xiaomi Mi 4i. The new handset is one of Xiaomi’s latest affordable handset with a wrap-around polycarbonate unibody design.

Though the handset carries the naming convention of the company’s flagship device, the new handset isn’t your high-end spec’d flagship but for the growing markets. And for the sake of the naming scheme that Xiaomi has introduce, the “i” suffix on the new Mi 4i doesn’t meaning anything for both software and hardware perspective but it simply means “India” as the handset has been designed specifically for the Indian market.

For the Chinese phone maker, affordable doesn’t mean cheap and that hold true as the new Xiaomi Mi 4i packs some of the best innovations in mobile devices.  It features a large 5-inch full-HD display with the latest MIUI 6 on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop, runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 610 with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage memory. Its polycarbonate body offers a thinner and a bit lighter when compared to the Mi 4.

Nothing seems to work nowadays if a phone doesn’t have cameras built within them so to make things more palatable, the Mi 4i is treated to include a 13 Megapixel main camera with a dual-tone LED flash and a 5 Megapixel camera on the front designed for the perfect selfie and high-resolution videos.

As part of the new set of improvements from the flagship that it’s based on, the new Xiaomi Mi 4i boosts a small and lighter battery pack but in a higher capacity at 3120 mAh. It also supports quick charging capability with its 2 Amp 5 Volt charger that replenish the handset of up to 40% of power in under an hour.  The only problem we have with the new handset is the lack of an expansion slot which should at least in some case will affect customers decision.
