Xiaomi to release Mi4 Youth Edition at 1799 Yuan, expected to be ready for the holidays.

Xiaomi might be the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world according to surveys but Meizu being one of the first to get into the smartphone race has considerably affected its competitors with the new Meizu MX4, Selling at 1799 Yuan, the MX4 was so popular in China that units went short of supply as people rushes in to get one. Xiaomi on the other hand sees an opportunity to compete within the price range imposed by Meizu on the MX4 that Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced on his Weibo account that his company is planning to release a cheaper variant of its flagship Mi4 as the Mi4 Youth Edition to directly compete against the Meizu’s popular MX4 at the same price.

So far, we have little information of the forthcoming device and according to our source GizChina that to bring the handset’s cost down, Xiaomi will have to tweak several parts of the handset and the only thing we known as of now is that it will have 2 GB of RAM as opposed to the flagship’s 3 GB but will retain its 32 GB on-board storage, fast LTE and the Snapdragon 801 processor.

We’ve got no information regarding its release date but given the holiday season is fast approaching, rumors suggests that the Mi4 Youth Edition will make it just in time for Christmas.
