The popular Redmi 1S from Xiaomi will soon be taking a follow-up with the new Redmi 2S. This was proven to have existed already as the handset earlier visited TENAA for certification and recently went to AnTuTu giving us a quick look tn the specs of the upcoming handset.

The new Xiaomi Redmi 2S according to AnTuTu’s database will sport a 4.7-inch 720p display and is powered by a newer 1.2 GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit capable CPU and the new Adreno 306 for its graphics needs but comes with a modest 1 GB of RAM. It also got an 8 GB storage on-board and it is also expected to include a memory expansion slot for users who demand more storage space. Like the Redmi 1S, the new Redmi 2S is still equipped with an 8-Megapixel main camera with LED flash on the back but got a little bump on the spec for the front camera which is now at 2 Megapixels.

As the new processor is equipped with 4G LTE built-in, the connectivity for the new Redmi 2S defaults to 4G with support for 3G and HSPA+ network connection plus the basic connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and other goodies. AnTuTu benchmark also indicates that the new Redmi 2S will feature a single-SIM setup until its predecessor having a default Dual-SIM capability. But still it doesn’t necessarily mean that Xiaomi won’t include such feature on the final retail product.

What drives the new Redmi 2S is the little updated 2200 mAh battery with the latest MIUI on top of Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) which pairs enough when we talk about power management. As for its dimensions, the Redmi 2S is more compact and lightweight which measures at 134 x 67.2 x 9.2 mm and weighs around 134 grams. There’s also an added bonus for which it has a thinner bezel compared to its predecessor.

In other news, Xiaomi is also rumored to update its Redmi Note as well, it was also one of the popular handsets coming from the device maker and it is said to be carrying a 64-bit processor on-board but on a more powerful Snapdragon 615 chipset. It would take a few moments before we get to see any of these handsets on our local retail shops but for now, it’s good thing to know that we have more alternatives coming that is more affordable and practical especially in a budget conscious market.
