The Redmi Note 9 series was originally launched by Xiaomi earlier this year but it was all meant for the India market and a few select markets in the world but for China, Chinese customers didn’t had the chance to get their taste on the Redmi Note 9 series until today.

Launched with a huge upgrade in mind, Xiaomi introduces a new generation of Redmi Note 9’s for the Chinese market with a new design of its own. This goes to show that Xiaomi is providing its home country with a lot of a better spec’d, better designed devices than the rest of the world and that’s quite evident with all other Xiaomi products that is only sold in China.

This event launched three new Redmi Note 9 devices, coming out is the top of the line Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, the Redmi Note 9 5G and its 4G variant.

Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G

As the name suggests, this one is up for the top with all the bells and whistles on what a Redmi Note would be, starting off with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G at its heart and got a 5G modem on board with the Qualcomm X52. This is then paired to either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and an expandable 128GB or a 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage.

The unit is built on a 6.67-inch IPS display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and a Full-HD+ at 1080 x 2400 resolution. The display comes with a centrally located punch hole where a 16 Megapixel Selfie camera is held on. It also got a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 both the front and back for protection.

The back somewhat has a minimalistic designed to it with a unique circular camera module. This part of the hardware comes primarily with a Samsung ISOCELL 108 Megapixel sensor and is joined by a 8 Megapixel with an Ultra Wide lens, a 2 Megapixel macro shooter and a 2 Megapixel depth sensor.

The camera on the Redmi Note 9 Pro is capable of shooting 4K videos at 30fps and 1080p videos at 30 and 60fps.

Being a phone, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G doesn’t come short with connectivity features with a total of 11 antennas for 5G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth around the unit. Others includes an NFC and IR blaster and a 3.5mm jack, not to mention that it’s got stereo speakers.

For power delivery, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G packs a 4,820mAh embedded battery and supports a 33W fast charging which is also included in the box and can juice up the device from zero to a hundred in just under an hour.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G will be available in Gray, Blue and Red/Mint color options with prices starting at CNY 1,600 for the 6GB/128GB model, CNY 1,800 for the 8GB/128GB version and to CNY 2,000 for the 8GB/256GB variant.

Redmi Note 9 5G

Built around a slightly smaller 6.53-inch IPS LCD display compared to the Pro variant, it as well missed a higher refresh rate screen which the Redmi Note 9 5G only pegs at a standard 60Hz refresh rate however, it can bring its brightness down to 1nit for a highly dimed viewing and comes with a TUV-certified display for low blue light emissions.

Different from its “Pro 5G” sibling, the punch hole for the selfie camera on the Redmi Note 9 5G is moved to the side and house a 13 Megapixel camera. It is protected though with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 both the front and back.

On the back, it also got the unique circular module however, instead of four, it only has three sensors with a 48 Megapixel sensor as its primary shooter, then there’s an 8 Megapixel with an Ultra Wide lens and a 2 Megapixel macro camera.

The Redmi Note 9 5G settles for the MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset, again, different from the Pro 5G but their performance based on several benchmark results are quite on par. But what makes the Pro 5G and this vanilla Redmi Note 9 is their RAM and storage configurations which starts at 6GB/128GB up to 8GB/256GB with the storage tech being a fast UFS 2.2 as well.

The battery on the Redmi Note 9 5G is slightly large at 5,000mAh, but the charging speed is lowered down with support for 18W fast charge. The charging brick that comes with it though is a 22.5W charger but that doesn’t make a difference.

Connectivity-wise, 5G is given and together with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it’s got a total of 7 antennas around. Plus there’s a 3.5mm audio jack and stereo speakers, but because it’s not a Pro, there’s no NFC on this one.

The Redmi Note 9 5G is available in Gray, Green and Violet color options and prices starts at CNY 1,300 for the 6GB/128GB, CNY 1,500 for the 8GB/128GB and CNY 1,700 for the 8GB/256GB variant.

Redmi Note 9 4G

5G connectivity is slowly becoming the norm, but 4G is not dead and this is evident despite the increasing popularity of 5G devices, company are still making devices with only 4G connectivity.

Xiaomi is on of those and that’s true with the Redmi Note 9 4G, They share basically all the same features as its 5G counterpart with a few minute omissions here and there.

For one, the display is similar but for the 4G variant, the protective layer is of a Gorilla Glass 3 and instead of a punch hole, it gets a waterdrop notch with a 8 Megapixel camera.

At the back, it’s relatively different in design though with the camera being off centered but basically has the same sensors as the Redmi Note 9 5G with a 48 Megapixel primary sensor, an 8 Megapixel Ultra Wide but instead of a macro lens, this one gets a 2 Megapixel depth sensor.

The Redmi Note 9 4G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC with at least 4GB of RAM and up to 8GB and storage at 128GB to 256GB.

It also gets all the standard connectivity options including a 3.5mm audio jack and there’s stereo speakers as well.

But the biggest selling point for the new Redmi Note 9 4G is probably its battery with 6,000mAh and supports 18W fast charging.

Starting at just CNY 1,000 for the 4GB/128GB model, this one is being the cheapest of the bunch with color options being: Gray, Green, Blue and Orange.
