vivo is getting ready to unveil its next major smartphone software update, with OriginOS 7 officially set to debut on September 16 during the company’s vivo Developer Conference (VDC).

The new operating system will be based on Android 17 and is expected to bring a noticeable visual overhaul. vivo has already teased a new interface with a liquid glass-inspired design, updated lighting effects, smoother animations, and new Liquid Themes for the lock screen.

But OriginOS 7 isn’t just about looks. vivo claims the update can deliver 14% faster graphics rendering, 12% faster app launches, and 19% faster page switching. The company also says power consumption during animations and rendering can be reduced by around 20%.

Another interesting addition is Storage Compression 2.0, which vivo says could free up as much as 20GB of additional storage on a 256GB device. Other features, including Atomic Workbench and a system-wide sticker library, are also expected to be part of the update.

For now, vivo has yet to reveal the complete list of supported devices and the exact rollout schedule. Those details are expected to be announced during the September 16 event.

The same conference will also see vivo introduce BlueOS 4, its next-generation platform for wearables, smart home products, and other IoT devices.
