Samsung is about to unveil this year’s flagship mobile device the highly anticipated Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. These new mobile devices will have its worldwide debut on February 25th at Samsung’s UNPacked 2018 event a day ahead of Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. Though that’s merely a few days from now, official press renders are making its way through online news site and blogs which leaves us with the rest of the specs pretty much ahead of the scheduled unveiling this weekend.
The image above is the Samsung Galaxy S9, though it looks like of the same design as the Galaxy S8 of last year but we are pretty sure that you are looking at the Galaxy S9, the tall slab with an Infinity display as Samsung would call it is there however, the back tells a different story. From the awkwardly positioned fingerprint sensor, the biometric reader has been repositioned to sit below the main camera module, that would also tells us that Samsung is still relying on the same Fingerprint reader tech than the recently hyped in-display sensor.
Moreover, the bigger Galaxy S9+ puts the difference even further by having the bigger sibling a dual camera sensors on the back:
These two devices will have the same 12 Megapixel main sensor similar to its predecessors but the best thing to with the new Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ is that their main camera’s are equipped with variable apertures which would switch from an f/1.5 to f/2.4 oh the fly in the hardware level. The Galaxy S9+ takes its imaging efforts even further by having secondary sensor with the same 12 Megapixel snapper but with a fixed f/2.4 Aperture lens.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8-inch display while the Galaxy S9+ at 6.2-inch. Both are super AMOLED panels and will have a 2960 x 1440 screen resolutions that flows unto both edges of the display, This follows what Samsung coined as Infinity display which transpired from the Galaxy S8 series since of last year.
So, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ will be Samsung’s fastest smartphone in its 2018 lineup with it being the first to sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset running at 2.6GHz in the US primarily and in some parts of the globe. The rest will have Samsung’s own baked Exynos 9810 chipset, both are all octa-core CPU’s with the Snapdragon 845 running at 2.6GHz while the Exynos variant runs on 2.9GHz.
RAM variations on both devices are also noticeable at least on the specs, the Galaxy S9 comes equipped with 4GB of RAM while the bigger Galaxy S9+ comes with 6GB. Both however manages to agree on offering the same 64GB of on-board storage at least at launch, that’s not counting the possible special variations of the handsets especially in regional specific models where storage options are due to change as more options are pushed through towards the year.
The Galaxy S9 series will be available in these color options: Midnight Black, Purple Purple, Coral Blue, Titanium Gray and will sport the same Metal and Glass build like the Galaxy S8’s. They will sport the same IP68 Certification which that means a perfectly implemented water resistance of up to 1.5 meter stands as standard for these devices.
