Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9 series launch in China is not the only thing that come out at the event, in addition to the new smartphones, Xiaomi also announced the new Redmi Watch.
The new Redmi Watch is the brand’s first smartwatch, we’re not counting the Redmi Smart band here though as that’s a different thing for a specific purpose on its own. The Redmi Watch has a basic squared designed with nothing much of a flare. To simply put it, it’s a minimalist thing on your wrist that tells the time and additional things digital.
You could even mistake it for the Apple Watch but don’t put your high hopes to it as it only cost a fraction of the price and the Redmi Watch only offers a few options to work on for its price.
Built quality as seen on the launch and some early reviews so far is quite impressive as it comes with a 1.4-inch touchscreen HD color display and a 2.5D glass cover on top. It has a replaceable silicone straps and the whole thing only weighs just 35 grams, that’s lightweight and even includes up to 50 meters of water resistance.
If features a heart rate sensor on the back that tracks heart rate for 24 hours. It comes with 7 Sports Mode for monitoring personal records and breath training also monitors sleep.
The Redmi Watch has Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC and is compatible with the Mi Fit app supporting iOS 10.0 and later, as well as Android 5.0 and later versions. It also comes built with Xiao AI voice assistant for voice commands and for watch faces, you’ll get over 120 watch faces to choose from.
Xiaomi promises up to 7 days of battery life as standard but it gets up to 12 days with the power-saving mode turned on. For charging, the Watch comes with a proprietary charging cradle and takes about 2 hours from zero to a full.
The new Redmi Watch is available in Black, White and Blue color options but the straps is also available in Green and Pink.
It retails at CNY 299 that equivalent to US$45 and will be available in China starting December 1st. There’s no word yet for its global availability though but rumors are in suggesting that Xiaomi could launch the wearable device as the Xiaomi Mi Watch lite for the international market, that’s what we need to look into, and we’ll soon find out.
