Smartphones often rely on electronic image stabilization (EIS) or optical image stabilization (OIS) for better photos and videos but things are about to change as Apple is about to shift into another direction for image stabilization for the next generation iPhone.

Rumors suggests that the upcoming iPhone successor will use a new method for image stabilization called Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization where the sensor itself moves to stabilize the camera for better looking photos or videos instead of through optics.
There’s little information about this rumor though but if its true, it should make way for other manufacturers and OEM’s to follow suit.
Moving to sensor-shifting stabilizers has its advantage as it makes modules less bulkier and is less costly than traditional OIS.
