In the world of beautiful phones wrapped in cases and such, HMD Global brings the new Nokia XR20 as a no-compromise mobile device and labelled as “Life-proof” both on its hardware and the software underneath.
It has a ruggedized body with MIL-STD810H certification designed to withstand drops from 1.8 meters. The display is covered with Gorilla Glass Victus which is one of the toughest display protection to date and together with an IP68 water and dust resistance, it’s a safe bet for people with clumsy hands.
The Nokia XR20 comes with a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ IPS display with a 550nits of brightness and comes equipped with highly sensitive touch panel that works with gloves and even with wet fingers. There’s also a small hole right above the screen and this houses an 8MP Selfie shooter.
On the back, there’s a prominent camera bump that features two camera which includes a 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 Aperture lens together with a 13MP Ultra Wide. There’s also two LED flash on the back to help illuminate scenes for low-light conditions, “two is better than one” I guess.
The phone is equipped with stereo speakers with Nokia OZO playback technology for better audio output. There’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button. A programmable top button which you can customize to launch app of your choice or make your most frequent task more accessible.
Additionally, the accessory loop on a Nokia smartphone device is back (at least for the XR20) for attaching a lanyard. A small external feature that should be present on all phones.
The battery on the new Nokia XR20 is rated at 4,630mAh with a promised two-days of battery life. Charging can be done in two options, wired charging that delivers up to 18W or 15W wirelessly, Yes it got wireless charging.
The new Nokia XR20 is powered by a Snapdragon 480 chipset which I think is a huge let down for such a beautiful device. However there’s a 5G connectivity on board at least and it comes with 6GB of RAM and a standard 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded through a microSD card.
The new Nokia XR20 boots Android 11 out of the box and HMD Global promised three years of OS upgrades and four years of monthly security updates.
The Nokia XR20 is coming in two color options: Ultra Blue and Granite Grey for $550 and will be available starting on the 24th of August.
