After numerous rumors and leaks, finally the Korean tech giant LG is officially announcing the company’s flagship mobile device the new LG G4 in an event simultaneously held in New York and London. LG is particular to point out key elements in Design, the Display and the Camera that the new flagship is bringing with. It’s no longer a surprise for us on what the new flagship would do as it pretty much have already been detailed through an almost everyday leak online. But to give more of an official look of the handset and the technology that it brings to users, we’ll take a moment to analyze on how far has LG been going, coming from the success of last year’s G3 flagship.
It was almost a year ago when LG announced the G4’s predecessor and indeed it could rival other brands on the same class and in fact it does more than that and is now making a strong impression of its own and has become the most awaited model in the mobile market of today. As expected for every company to succeed in every leap, LG manages to put the G4 beyond our expectations and could potentially rival the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge from its homeland arch-rival company Samsung.
Design
With the introduction of the new LG G4, LG present new material and design with underlying technology that put users forward in the mobile space. It comes with features that a flagship device deserves and a powerhouse that is more than capable of the performance that today’s games and applications demands. The new genuine leather rear covers are offered in different colors done by an eco-friendly vegetable tanning process that offers both premium and elegance to the already saturated all metal finishes in current smartphone scene. The Leather material of the rear cover for the new LG G4 present a whole new standard in providing a new premium experience from such a device designed for simplicity but for users who want the conventional side of things then the LG G4 also has other rear cover options to choose from and that includes the Ceramic White with 3D patterns, artisan-forged Metallic Gray and shiny Gold.
The LG G4 has a slim Arc design that runs though the handset and a display with subtle curvature. The arc design offers 20% more durability than a standard flat on the face smartphones when drop facing down. More so, the G4’s slim arc design gives the handset more comfortable to hold and feels more secure when held in the hand. The external design is in close relation to the user interface that the LG G4 is running with the new Android 5.1 Lollipop Operating System with LG’s latest UX 4.0 interface on top. Both the OS’s built-in interface enhancement and LG’s customized user interface elements, the G4 should give users the best mobile experience they could have on a mobile design with simplified user interface with interface elements and icons having round corners are presented in vibrant colors that reflects the arc design that the G4 has.
Display
With the new LG G4, LG has put a serious emphasis on the importance of the display on every mobile device with the company’s latest display technology. With the introduction of the new G4, LG stuffed the flagship handset with a 5.5-inch IPS Quantum Display, a first of its kind coming from LG that offers a lot of benefits in terms of color reproduction that steps up to 20% of improvement against a regular IPS display, it also brings up to 25% improvement in brightness and 50 more of contrast. Also, the G4 incorporates the latest Advanced In-Cell Touch technology where both the LCD panel and the touch sensitive sensors are combined in a single layer for more accurate color reproduction and increased touch sensitivity.
Camera
Pushing the evolution of camera technology on mobile devices, LG has equipped the G4 with a homegrown 16 Megapixel snapper designed to just take beautiful shots. The camera on the LG G4 has a f/1.8 aperture lens designed to allow more light to reach the camera sensor, this new improvement helps a lot when taking photos in a low light conditions. Further improvement in performance goes to the included Optical Image Stabilization OIS 2.0, it helps by focusing objects into the frame with less distortion from the slightest movement of the camera.
The new LG G4 also includes a manual control for the camera. Users can now have the freedom to control and manipulate each settings for the camera, including ISO, shutter speed, focus, exposure compensation and white balance in every shot to accomplish a desired resulting image. Advanced mobile photography enthusiasts can further manipulate captured images by saving their shots in RAW format which they could edit later on the PC with their favorite photo editing apps.
The camera on the LG G4 also includes the Color Spectrum Sensor (CSS) feature which is a first in a smartphone that basically improves the color production of the image by precisely analyzing the RGB value of the ambient light and the infrared light reflected from the object. Using this values, the camera will automatically adjust the White balance and the color of the flash to match the resulting image of that we actually see the image or the object with the naked eye.
A smartphone especially a flagship phone doesn’t leave users without a camera on the front and with that, to further provide an ultimate tool for self-portrait which we now call a selfie and a high quality video call images to date, LG has include an industry leading and high performance 8 Megapixel camera sensor on the front which is also capable of taking 1080p quality videos. Though the front camera has no dedicated flash to help with, LG has augmented that issue by having the main display itself as the source of light by turning the display white with a small camera view finder windows sitting on the center while users prepares to take a snap for a selfie that they just love to make.
Performance + Power
The new LG G4 powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset – 64-bit Hexa-core processor running at 1.8 GHz with X10 LTE connectivity integrated into the chipset. It has 3 GB of RAM with 32 GB of built-in storage. With long-term relevance and the need to accommodate all the users storage requirements, the new flagship handset comes with a memory expansion slot that supports microSD cards of up to a whopping 2 TB capacities, currently we have affordable microSD cards available with a maximum of 128 GB in capacity but new developments have let manufacturers create cards with more room for storage and it won’t take long for higher capacity memory cards to flood the mass market very soon.
Smartphones are created to connect people and LG has made connections more convenient by supporting the latest connectivity features that we have today. To start with, the handset support 4G/LTE-Advanced wireless connection in addition to conventional 3G/HSPA+ and 2G/GSM/GPRS support. Other rich connectivity features includes high-speed Wi-Fi, the latest Bluetooth 4.1 specification with BLE, GPS with GPS-Assist and GLONASS, NFC, USB 2.0 on microUSB, 4K Slimport support and wireless charging.
The handset runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with LG’s proprietary LG UX 4.0 interface on top which is by the way one of the simplest and most ergonomically designed user interface to date. The LG G4 runs under a 3000 mAh removable Li-Ion battery which is way more better than being built-in and non-removable. The removable battery of the new LG G4 might as well becomes a selling point for the LG G4 and set the handset against its rival the Galaxy S6 which by now has a non-removable battery that made a lot of Samsung fans disappointed.
