When Samsung announced the Galaxy Note7, there’s nothing else on my mind but get my hands on the device and indeed, when the pre-order kicked in, there’s no stopping me to get the handset. Reliving the experience is a mixed feeling of being glad and a heart-break since as we know it that Samsung is recalling the Galaxy Note7 because of the battery issues. To keep everyone from harm, Samsung issued a statement that existing Galaxy Note7 needs to be surrendered immediately and replacement units should be available in a few weeks time. So almost everyone did as instructed.
Just as I’m about to grab my replacement unit, the same issue emerge but this time it happened on a deemed safe Galaxy Note7, the said unit was in smoke which in one instance, happened on a commercial flight that’s about to taxi. Luckily no one was hurt and everyone was evacuated from the plane and like the first one, increasing number of reports of the “safe” Galaxy Note7 caught on fire like the original units.
After the incident, Samsung halted the release of replacement units around the world and just recently, released an official statement that the company is urging everyone that uses a Galaxy Note7 (replacement or not) to cordinate to the store or carriers where they purchased the device and have them exchange a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge. Carriers are giving users the option for a refund or exchange them with either any other Samsung units or smartphones from different manufacturer.
With just two months in the market, Samsung announced the end of production of the Galaxy Note7, sales and release of the handset around the world are stopped. With Samsung ceased production and release of the handset worldwide, the Galaxy Note7 is now officially dead. Now as for myself, I still have to go to my carrier for options. From your perspective, should users opt for a Galaxy S7 edge or Galaxy S7 as a replacement to the Galaxy Note7 or a refund more reasonable?
