The curtain’s down for the new Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and the humble Mi 11i

We’ve heard so much rumors and speculations for the new Xiaomi flagship of flagships and it did spot them right as the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra brought everything technology to each and every component it comes with.

It’s undeniably the most sought out device to date with Xiaomi’s innovative and most elaborate changes on the company’s smartphone devices in years.

• 

To begin with, the new Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra’s main attraction is the camera and to deliver an edge in this department, Xiaomi opted to use a Samsung GN2 sensor with its large 1/1.12” sensor and largest pixel size at 1.4µm. This sensor supports 4-in-1 pixel binning which makes the effective pixel size at 2.8µm. It comes with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and includes Dual Pixel Pro which further enhances Autofocus speed and accuracy, a Smart ISO Pro that captures HDR Photos in an instant.

Two more cameras completes the main camera camera module and one of them is a Sony IMX586 48 Megapixel sensor that sits behind a 128-degree Ultra Wide angle lens. This camera doubles as a macro shooter as well and can record videos of up to 8K and even comes with night mode support.

The third sensor in the mix is another 48 Megapixel Sony IMX586 still but behind a periscope lens which offers up to 5x optical zoom and 10x hybrid zoom and has OIS too. For the front, there’s a 20 Megapixel Selfie camera with a 0.8μm pixel size.

And to make things a little more radical (at least for Xiaomi devices), the Mi 11 Ultra’s camera module has a built-in 1.1-inch secondary AMOLED display. It has an Always On feature and is primarily used as a camera viewfinder but it can also show notifications as well and that comes in handy.

What powers the new flagship is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and this comes expected for such technologically advanced smartphone device. The chipset is then paired with either 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a UFS 3.1 storage from 256GB or a 512GB in capacities.

For the display, Xiaomi uses a 6.81-inch AMOLED display with a QHD+ resolution that supports 120Hz but for everyone to know, it’s not adaptive so there’s a little compromise there. But together with that fast refresh rate is a 480Hz touch sampling rate. It also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, DCI-P3 color space and with 900nits of brightness that peaks at 1,700nits. Protecting the display is the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

Feature-wise, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has dual speakers tuned by Harman Kardon and is Hi-Res Audio certified. There’s IP68 for water and dust resistance.

Keeping the device working is a 5,000mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging capabilities for both wired and wireless charging and is capable of bringing the battery charge to a full for just 36 minutes and there’s also a 10W reverse wireless charging. To make that fast charging possible, Xiaomi have developed a “6x supercharge” technology through a in-house built custom chip that enables wireless charging at 30V with a multi-level current control technology that speeds up the charging by 10%.

The new Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra will be rolled out globally and is available in Black and White color options as standard. There’s also a Marble Ceramic special edition but it’s not yet know if the latter is coming outside of China as well.

Prices for the Mi 11 Ultra:

• 12GB/256GB = CNY6,499 (US$992)
• 12GB/512GB = CNY6,999 (US$1,069)

Mi 11i

In line with the new Xiaomi flagship, Xiaomi also introduced a rebadged Redmi K40 Pro+ as the new Xiaomi Mi 11i and has taking everything what’s there on the former except for the model name.

With that being said, the Mi 11i built around a 6.67-inch AMOLED display along with its 120Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate. What powers the handset is the Snapdragon 888 as well and comes in two configurations: 8GB/128GB or the 8GB/256GB of RAM and storage.

For imaging, the Mi 11i is equipped with a Samsung 108 Megapixel HM1 sensor that supports 3x lossless digital zoom. There’s also an 8 Megapixel Ultra Wide and a 5 Megapixel Telephoto camera that also doubles as a macro shooter.

Keeping the lights for the Mi 11i is a 4,520mAh battery that supports a lower 33W fast charging which according to Xiaomi should fill its battery to a full at less than an hour.
