Without commotion, Starmobile silently released the new Sky smartphone device with Google’s latest Android  4.4 (KitKat) on board. Designed mainly for users that favors functionality and styling over performance and for first time users obviously, The Starmobile Sky features a stylish body housing the device’s 4-inch multitouch capacitive display.

Under the hood, the Starmobile Sky features a 1.3 GHz Quad-core MediaTek MT6582 CPU with Mali-400 MP2 GPU as the main driver for graphics and a modest 512 MB of RAM, there is a 4 GB storage on-board, but we still need to find out if this thing supports memory expansion. Given the low internal storage configuration, memory expansion for the Sky is more likely possible.

As a smartphone for the budget conscious segment, the Starmobile Sky comes with 3G and HSPA+ wireless connectivity in Dual SIM mode. Other connectivity options comes as standard includes a Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth.

Android Smartphones these days comes with a camera as standard, even on low budget devices built-in cameras seems a must. For the Sky, there is a 8 Megapixel shooter on the back with BSI sensor which should help in taking photos in low light conditions. On the other hand, the front facing camera is a standard VGA camera with 0.3 Megapixel sensor that should be enough for making video calls.

The battery on this device though seems to be a huge let down. We all know that Android devices most of the time requires large batteries to stay alive for the whole day. the Starmobile Sky for this instance comes with 1,600 mAh battery as standard which we believe that it might not keep up for a one full day of operation. However, the Starmobile Sky now comes with Android 4.4 that is widely known to have a better power management compared to previous versions of Android. This will still need to be tested in a real world scenario when random usage of the device from simple tasks to extensive and simultaneous use of wireless connectivity, screen up time among others.

The Starmobile Sky is now available in stores and mobile kiosk nationwide with a price of 3,890 Php. Did We mentioned that the Sky features a Tap to Wake feature much similar to knock On feature found in selected LG smartphone and tablet devices. At a price barely touching the 4K mark, this should be enough for starters where functionality and style drives their daily lives.
