Sony has quite a number of mobile users waiting for the company to update their existing devices to Google’s latest Android 5.0 operating system. While backed in October of last year, Sony made a statement that promises a significant Android 5.0 upgrade to existing Xperia Z devices after Google officially announced the new operating system .

But it seems that Sony Xperia users other than the Xperia Z line of devices would be out of luck after Sony officially announced that the company will only be investing on upgrading all Xperia Z devices to Android 5.0.x Lollipop. It’s quite a shock to everyone who purchased a Sony device only to know later that their devices will somehow be pinned to their current OS despite their hardware met the hardware requirements for Google’s new operating system.

The news broke out after Sony official tweet on its official twitter account telling everyone that the company will only be doing a Lollipop upgrade for the Xperia Z devices and a number of variants of the said flagship devices. Sony has released a significant number of interesting devices including the Xperia E1, Xperia E2, Xperia C3, Xperia M2, Xperia M2 Aqua, Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia T3 which won’t be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade despite their hardware being capable to run the OS.

That all applies to existing devices, future non-flagship Xperia devices would be shipping with Android 5.0.x Lollipop definitely including the soon to be released Xperia M4 Aqua. But with the move that Sony seems to have implement, we now wonder as to how many loyal users would stay loyal to the company after they are about to be left behind leaving them with an almost next to an obsolete handset.
