Sony introduced two new mid-ranger smartphones in the market. Equipped with advanced cameras, good-looking designs and better batteries and good performance, these devices follows the one of the leading edge of Sony in the mobile phone space. The two announced devices the Xperia C5 and the Xperia M5, both devices are centered to the selfie-centric customers with minor differences in terms of unit size and minute features.
Xperia C5 Ultra
The Xperia C5 Ultra is a true and direct successor to the selfie-generation Xperia C3 and features a whopping 13 Megapixel camera for both the front and back. Both cameras also features a dedicated LED Flash to make use of the high-resolution cameras, it also features a 22 mm focal length to fit in more people on the lens.
Xperia C5 Ultra comes with a 6.0-inch near-zero bezel IPS display having a 1920 x 1080 resolutions and Sony’s Bravia Engine 2 for an immersive and highly detailed viewing experience. The handset is powered by a MediaTek MT6752 SoC with 8-core processors running at 1.7 GHz, this is paired with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a memory expansion option via microSD cards.
As part of seamless communication experience, the new Xperia C5 Ultra includes 4G/LTE connectivty together with the norms of 3G/HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB. The handset comes with a fairly good enough battery pack with 2930 mAh capacity with Sony promising to last for two days in a full single charge. Driving the Xperia C5 Ultra is Android 5.0 Lollipop with all the necessary customization from Sony.
The new Xperia M5 is what Sony calls the “Super Mid-Range” device that becomes the successor of the Xperia M4. Despite the naming scheme, it takes cues from the flagship Z series of device. Aside from its overall design, the handset is also constructed in the way how today’s flagship smartphone would be with combination of metal and glass, the Xperia M5 is definitely the flagship in its class.
Though smaller from the two newly announced device, the Xperia M5 still features 1080p resolution which is best and at home on its 5-inch IPS display panel with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2 which ensures an immersive viewing experience. With its stainless steel frames in between, the handset is covered with glass both in the front and back which what Sony coins as “OmniBalance Design” and comes with IP65 and IP68 certifications to protect itself from spills and dust.
The Xperia M5 is also one of Sony’s latest devices to include MediaTek’s latest Helio X10 SoC. Supporting the new processor is its 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of expandable storage. The handset also comes with 13 Megapixel front camera similar to the new Xperia C5 Ultra but unlike the latter, the new Xperia M5 won’t be including a dedicated flash for the front camera but makes to alleviate the absence of the front facing flash by increasing the megapixel count for the main camera. Coming with 21.5 Megapixel back shooter, the higher-resolution shooter can also record high-res videos at 4K resolution and with its high megapixel count, it aims to perform the way compact digital cameras could deliver with sharp, brighter and clearer photos every time.
The new Xperia M5 will be driven by the new Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with Sony’s exclusive customization on top. Keeping the handset on for most of the time is the built-in 2600 mAh battery which is also to last up to 2 days in a single fully charged battery.
Sony is expected to bring the two new Xperia models in the market by mid-August and will also be available in Dual-SIM variant in key selected emerging markets.
