Smart Communications Inc. brings LTE-Advanced “5G” Mobile Internet in the Philippines
As we clog our network carriers with millions of devices and the proliferation of LTE enabled devices, what seemed to be the fastest network speed offered by 4G or LTE network has almost dragged our recent mobile speed to more or less like we live in early 2000 in the advent of 3G networks. While we might have enjoyed our internet speeds back then, today’s highly advanced smartphone congested and always connected devices mobiles networks, speed and reliability is indeed needed in which our HSPA+ and LTE networks are starting to fail in providing better user experience.
However recently, the Philippines largest Mobile communication firm Smart Communications Inc. announced on Thursday the adoption of the new Long-Term Evolution-Advanced wireless technology (LTE-A) or “5G” network in the country. The telecommunication firm recently switched on the LTE-A network at the Jump Start center in Mandaluyong City Philippines which makes the company as the first carrier in the country to leap into the next standard in mobile communication technology.
5G can deliver network data from 100 Mbps to a whopping 1Gbps, that’s twice the speed of existing 4G network or ten-times faster that the standard 3G network connectivity that we have currently. Take for example a 10 Megabyte file download, theoretically it would take less than a second to download the file on our devices. This means that video streaming from Youtube and other similar services will no longer need to buffer and offer a smooth user experience. Similarly, Video calls will be as smooth as ever and music streaming will be seamless as if you have those songs stored locally on your device. Aside from this speed improvements, 5G network also has the capabilities allocates more bandwidth to users when needed.
Smart Communications is one of the first mobile phone carriers to leap into 5G network according to Orlando Vea, the company’s founder and chief wireless advisor of Smart. This has pinned the Philippines as one of early adopters of the new wireless technology.
